On Friday, January 12, ARC’s Special Olympics team participated in the opening ceremonies for the 2018 Special Olympics Georgia Winter Games. Over the course of the weekend, our Special Olympians took both gold and bronze medals in traditional basketball and snagged fourth place in skills basketball.
It is only through the support of the United Way of Southwest Georgia and community donors that we are able to offer a Special Olympics program, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics gives participants continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other athletes, and the community.
When you support your local ARC Special Olympics team, you cover transportation costs, food and lodging, coaching, uniforms, and equipment. When you support your local ARC Special Olympics team, you instill hope, health, and camaraderie.
Before each Special Olympics event begins, participants recite the following motto: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Thank you for supporting the brave winners right here in our community.
